The aim of this contribution is a greater understanding of the relation between fasting and vision quest, bringing light to benefits and risks of fasting and giving you the tools to experiment on your own.
The vision quest is an old ritual for connecting with Spirit and our own deepest purpose. It is traditionally a solitary pilgrimage — similar to the retreats taken by ancient spiritual masters — that in many cultures was preceded by fasting and meditation. The seeker then goes deep into the forest or another natural setting and opens to divine guidance.
UFH is a healing modality brought forward in the last decade by Ottawa’s Dr. John Ryan, MD.
Dr. Ryan is an interesting person, with one leg firmly grounded in the ordinary world and another leg in a quantum, spiritual world. He is home in both worlds.
I met Dr. Ryan in 2016 at a little book store on Main street where he introduced his new book The Missing Pill (2nd edition was renamed Unity Field Healing).
I was mesmerized by his presentation and later by the book. I started to follow his spiritual work, attending his lectures, workshops and, in 2019, his training for UFH practitioners. I went to training again in late 2019 and then recently in September 2023. For the third time!
Recently I have read an article by Dr. Alberto Villoldo that impressed me greatly.
It is about love from a different angle of understanding.
I am adding the article to my contents with gratitude.
The remote cultures, including indigenous people of the Americas, knew how to live in harmony with nature and how to honour the sacredness of all that surrounds them, including the plants.
Many of their legends speak about a heavenly being who walked the earth bringing wisdom. One of them was Quetzalcoatl, the feathered serpent, Lord of the Dawn to the Aztec and Hopi nations.
A ceremony is an intentional event to celebrate something sacred. When we step into sacred space and time, we grow our light bodies and feel connected to all things. We realize that our life can be a ceremony.
The ceremony for a dying person in the shamanic tradition is called Great Death Rites.
It is one of the most important healing practices of the Medicine Wheel.
In the Andean shamanic tradition that I was trained in, the Medicine Wheel starts with the South direction and moves clockwise to the West, North and East.
Each direction has an archetypal power, Serpent in the South, Jaguar in the West, Hummingbird in the North, and the Eagle or Condor in the East.
Each archetypal power offers a set of teachings and healing practices.
Once I entered primary school, my thirst for learning new things made my early experiences fade. My views became more pragmatic, materialistic and rigid.
As the years passed by, I learned to marvel at the beauty of nature again.
“Out, beyond ideas of wrong doing and right doing, there is a field. I’ll meet you there. When the soul lies down in that grass the world is too full to talk about.”

Healing practice through connecting to the universal energy and with the reiki symbols
UFH is a healing modality that supports health and bio-spiritual transformation. It shares the foundation of channeling universal energy and releasing energy blockages. It also works with client’s spiritual DNA axis and can bring a profound shift in consciousness. It was brought to Dr. John Ryan in a series of meditative visions.
